Poverty Stigma: Change the story
IRES is the first programme of any City Region Deal in Scotland to adopt a region-wide approach to tackling poverty stigma. This landmark initiative positions the Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region as a national leader, demonstrating our commitment to challenging poverty and its impacts at every level.
This work already has national backing. In November 2025, Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, personally signed the Change the Story pledge, highlighting the importance of addressing poverty stigma across Scotland.
By embedding this commitment across the entire programme, IRES is setting a new national benchmark and encouraging other City Region and Growth Deals to follow suit.

This campaign aims to inform and encourage everyone to think about the impact they can make – within their own career choices.
We worked with academics, business owners, employees and industry experts on a series of short films . They explain the meaning of green jobs, by sharing real life examples and opinions on the green economy.
