Integrated knowledge management systems (IKS)

The Integrated Knowledge Management System (IKS) project has delivered Helix, a joined-up Management Information System for skills and employability across the region.

As the UK’s first fully integrated regional data platform for employability and skills, Helix is now the cornerstone of regional skills intelligence across Edinburgh and South East Scotland.

Launched in March 2022, Helix provides a modern platform that improves the experience for both caseworkers and clients, with ongoing enhancements and new functionality. Through helix.scot, it also offers a single access point for individuals, returning clients and employers to engage with services.

Used by all six Local Authorities and more than 900 practitioners, Helix brings together a unified dataset of over 100,000 client records, projected to exceed 140,000. This shared system and common data language enable deeper insight, stronger reporting and more coordinated delivery across the region.
